Tonight – K. Jennings

Tonight I find myself at a crossroads,

an intersection between past and future.

trapped in the moment, I cling to nostalgia,

performing a ritual that has lain latent for ages.

Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory,

and memory unravels like a scroll,

stretching to times when all was possible.

I break free of the constraints of the present,

stop focusing on the here and now,

and revel in the energy of the unknown.

How great it was not to know…

The night descends,

the lights glow faintly,

and the feeling slips away.

tonight I’ll sleep and dreams will fade,

beneath the honest light of day.
